Cops detain 120 for illegal gambling nationwide during Ops Limau


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 120 individuals were detained in connection with illegal gambling nationwide.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the suspects -115 men and five women - were picked up by Bukit Aman CID in an operation code named "Ops Limau" between Jan 15 and Jan 19.

"The CID also seized RM92,481 cash believed to be proceeds from illegal gambling following 20 raids conducted.

"The cases are being investigated under Section 6(1) and Section 7(2) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953," she said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 21).

Ops Limau will be conducted for 15 days until Jan 28 to curb illegal gambling activities during the Chinese New Year period, she said.

"Elements of the CID at federal, state and district level are involved in Ops Limau.

"Stern action will be taken against anyone involved in illegal gambling" she added.

DCP Noorsiah urged those with information on illegal gambling to contact Ops Limau WhatsApp hotline at 016-577 3477.
