Man gets 3 years' jail for smashing ATM screens


SIBU: A man has been sentenced to three years in jail and fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Jan 19) after he pleaded guilty to damaging the screen of a cash deposit machine and two automated teller machines of a bank.

Jaquclyn Vosco, 37, was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief to the property of the bank.

According to the charge sheet, the accused had gone to a bank in Jalan Kampung Nyabor.at about 9.30pm on January 15, 2023

He then used a hammer to smash the screen of the three machines resulting in the bank incurring repair costs totalling RM35,000.

His act was captured by the CCTV of the bank.

A staff of the bank was alerted to what was happening by the loud siren in the room where the machines were located.

Following the lodging of a police report, the accused was arrested the next day at his house in Tanjung Latap.
