Covid-19: MB urges Johoreans to get second booster, uptake rate still low at 1.9%


JOHOR BARU: Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi urges all Johoreans to get their second Covid-19 booster shot to better protect themselves against the disease.

The Johor Mentri Besar said that the percentage of those who have taken the second booster shot in Johor is still low, at only 1.9%.

He then said that he still wants to urge Johoreans to take the second booster shot even though the number of Covid-19 cases in Johor is still under control.

“Although we are used to living in the transition to the endemic phase, there is also the emergence of new variants such as BA.5.2 and B.7. Johor is also an international entry point and the people need to continue being careful,” he said in a statement here on Monday (Jan 9).

Onn Hafiz also received a briefing from the Johor Health Department, including from Johor Health director Datuk Dr Aman Rabu.

“Let us pray together that Johor and Malaysia will be freed from the threats of the pandemic in the future,” he said.

Some 405 new Covid-19 cases have been detected in Malaysia on Sunday (Jan 8), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,030,313 since the pandemic began.

In Johor, some 20 cases were detected on Sunday where eight are in Johor Baru, four in Kota Tinggi, three in Batu Pahat, two each in Pontian and Segamat as well as one case in Kulai.
