Two assistant medical officers jailed, fined for corpse management bribery

SHAH ALAM: Two assistant medical officers from the Kajang Hospital were sentenced to eight and six days jail respectively by the Sessions Court here on Wednesday (Jan 4) for accepting bribes in connection with the management of corpses between 2019 and 2021.

Judge Rozilah Salleh meted out the punishments to Mohd Redzuan Che Husain, 34, and Mohd Fariq Ariffin, 34, after both pleaded guilty to four and three alternative charges respectively.

The court sentenced the duo to two days in jail for each charge and ordered the jail sentences to run consecutively from Wednesday.

Mohd Redzuan was also fined RM20,000 or in default 24 months’ jail to four alternative charges, while Mohd Fariq was fined RM11,000 or in default 18 months’ jail to three alternative charges.

Based on all the alternative charges, the duo, who were then with the Forensic Unit at the hospital, received bribes amounting to RM1,550 and RM1,000 respectively from an individual through their CIMB bank accounts at a CIMB branch in Ipoh, Perak, and Petaling Jaya near here between Aug 14, 2019, and Jan 21, 2021.

All the charges were framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment up to two years or a fine, or both.
