Investigations into duo who climbed Merdeka 118 still ongoing, says Home Minister

PUTRAJAYA: Investigations are ongoing on the daredevil act of a Russian duo who had purportedly scaled to the top of Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said he was informed of the matter but it was still premature make a comment.

“I was informed that the investigation is going on, give me space to get the full report before commenting,” he said.

On Dec 28, it was reported that two Russians - Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus - had scaled up Merdeka 118, prompting questions of security by internet users.

Photos of the climb were uploaded on the internet and reshared on Reddit.

On Dec 29, Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya confirmed that a report had been received on the matter.

He then said on Thursday (Jan 5) that the statements of nine people had been recorded so far in connection with the matter, and that MCMC had furnished a social media analysis report to police for use in the probe.

Nikolau had also detailed in a series of tweets on how she had managed to get to trespass to the top of the building.
