21 year old motorcyclist dies in fatal accident in Penampang


KOTA KINABALU: A 21-year-old motorcyclist met his death during an accident involving two other vehicles in Penampang on Wednesday (Jan 4).

According to the Penampang district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim, they initially received a report of the fatal incident that occurred along Jalan Kota Kinabalu – Penampang at 10.53am.

"Investigations found that the victim, a foreigner, fell off his motorcycle after colliding with a four-wheel-drive (4WD).

"Lying on the road, the victim was run over by a lorry as the driver was unable to avoid him in time.

"He was pronounced dead on scene by the medical officer on duty and the body has been brought to Forensics Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for autopsy," Mohd Haris said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless and dangerous driving.
