Woman jailed a day for stealing gold bangle to help pay off boyfriend's car loan

PORT DICKSON: A 22-year-old woman who admitted to stealing a gold bangle worth some RM15,000 from a jewellery shop to help pay off her boyfriend's car instalments has been sentenced to a day's jail.

According to the police, the Magistrate's Court here also ordered the woman to pay a RM7,000 fine for the offence.

District police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said the woman and her 20-year-old boyfriend went to the shop at around noon on Dec 7 on the pretext of buying jewellery.

"While looking at a gold bangle, they both suddenly got up and ran out of the store before escaping in a car.

"The incident happened so fast that the workers were not able to jot down the car registration number," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 20).

Supt Aidi Sham said in a follow-up operation, police arrested the woman at an apartment in Rawang, Selangor, on Dec 16.

Police also managed to recover the stolen item which had been pawned at a shop in Seremban.
