Restaurant in Kota Tinggi ordered to close due to unhygienic conditions

JOHOR BARU: A restaurant has been ordered to close after a video of the unhygienic conditions of the outlet went viral on Friday (Dec 16).

Johor health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said an inspection found that the level of cleanliness at the outlet in Kota Tinggi was unsatisfactory.

He said officers from the Kota Tinggi Health Department were dispatched to the outlet at 11.45am, following the video which was uploaded onto the Khas Orang Kota Tinggi FB account at about 11.30am.

“Investigations found that the outlet was rented out to non-Malaysians,’’ Ling said in a statement.

He said the outlet’s four food handlers did not possess the food handling certificates and one of them did not undergo typhoid vaccination.

Ling said among the offences recorded by the department were unhygienic food storage, dirty flooring, dusty walls, uncovered and dirty dustbins.

“Premises closure orders have been issued under Section 12 of the Food Act 1983 and Section 10(1) of the same Act,’’ he said.

Ling said the owner of the premises which rented out the place was slapped with a compound notice under Regulation 11(1) and Regulation 15(1) for not registering the premises under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
