Khaled expects MPs to act ‘rationally’ over confidence vote

KOTA TINGGI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to receive a “rational response” from MPs when he faces the vote of confidence in Dewan Rakyat next week, says an Umno leader here.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that there is a need for Malaysia to have a stable government that could lead the country and its people forward.

"I believe that all MPs will act rationally as there is no single coalition that has a majority.

"The best thing we can do is to have a unity government as per the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's decree," he said.

He told reporters when met outside of the Felda Simpang Waha Masjid An-Nur after attending a thanksgiving ceremony and handing over of aid here.

Mohamed Khaled said this when asked whether the motion of confidence towards Anwar will pass with a breeze on Monday (Dec 19).

He said that the people are also tired of the constant politicking and needs a government that could help with the challenges they are facing.

"The time has now come for us to focus on administering and managing the country.

"If we have a strong government, there are many things we can do, not only for us to help the people, but also to put Malaysia on the right track," he said.

The confidence vote for Anwar’s leadership will be one of the main items on the agenda during the first session of the first term of the 15th Parliament of Malaysia, scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday (Dec 20).
