KOTA TINGGI: A new agenda on higher education will be rolled out in January, which will, among others, address the lack of interest in pursuing further studies as well as reducing its cost, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The recently appointed Higher Education Minister said the agenda would address all the concerns involving his ministry and list the way forward in uplifting the country’s education level.

“I will be attending a briefing by the ministry and the Higher Education Department on the challenges in the higher education landscape.

“There has been a lot of changes, especially since Covid-19 pandemic, so there is a lot of things that need our attention and deep understanding before we can come up with any solution to address some of the issues,” he said in an interview after attending a meet-and-greet session with the local community at Dewan Muafakat Taman Pasak Indah here yesterday.

The new direction, said the Kota Tinggi MP, would also address efforts to produce higher quality human capital and local talent, which was in line with the government’s measures to make the country a higher education hub.

“There are so many things that we want to share, and I prefer to do this one day (in January) so that I can detail our agenda for the country.

“It’s not like we have prepared all the things we need to do once we come into the office. We do have plans, but they still need time to be prepared before we can share them with the country,” he added.

This is Mohamed Khaled’s second stint as Higher Education Minister after first assuming the post under former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak back in 2008.
