King presents letters of appointment to 11 Malaysian envoys

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has presented letters of appointment to 11 new Malaysian heads of diplomatic missions at Istana Negara here on Friday (Dec 2).

In a statement, Wisma Putra said among those who received their instruments of appointment were Istana Negara's Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, who will be ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

Ahmad Fadil, who joined Wisma Putra in 1995, had previously served as ambassador to Qatar and Poland as well as consul-general in Dubai. He had also served at other Malaysian missions in Canberra, Havana, Cuba and Santiago. He joined Istana Negara in 2019.

Datuk Tan Yang Thai, who will be the ambassador to Vietnam, previously served as the High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. He had served as consul-general in Shanghai as well as in Moscow and Uzbekistan.

Dr Adina Kamarudin is the new ambassador to Berlin, her second stint in Germany after previously serving as consul-general in Frankfurt. She holds a PhD from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and joined the Foreign Ministry as an administrative and diplomatic officer in 1997.

Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, who will head the mission in Pakistan, was undersecretary of Wisma Putra's south and central division.

Other heads of mission who received their letters of appointment were Mohamad Nasri Abdul Rahman (Jordan), Ilham Tuah Illias (Uzbekistan), Mazita Marzuki (New Zealand), Edi Erwan Mahmud (Laos), Zainal Izran Zahari (Senegal), Mohd Adli Abdullah (Kazakhstan) and Badli Hisham Adam (Sri Lanka).

Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah was also in attendance.
