Friends killed in crash near Palong Felda settlements

BAHAU: Two friends were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with a car along Jalan Besar Palong 7, 8-Palong 4, 5, 6 here.

Jempol OCPD Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the victims were heading towards the Palong 7, 8 Felda settlements when the accident occurred at 9.30pm on Thursday (Nov 24).

The motorcyclist was identified as Sariffudin Rozali, 35, from Felda Palong 8 while the woman pillion rider was Azamatul Alia Ismail, 28, from Felda Palong 7.

Both died on the spot and their bodies were sent to Hospital Jempol for post-mortem.

"Preliminary investigations showed that the 26-year-old car driver was overtaking another car along a double-line stretch when he crashed into the victims' motorcycle," he said.

According to Supt Hoo, a urine test on the driver came back negative for drugs.

It is learnt that the driver, from Jertih in Terengganu, suffered injuries to his right arm.

He was detained to help in the probe and Supt Hoo said police would apply for a remand order against him.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death through reckless or dangerous driving.
