"For now, Barisan has agreed to remain as the Opposition," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Nov 22).

Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias also said Barisan would play its role as check-and-balance to the government that will be formed following the conclusion of the 15th General Election (GE15).

In a statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday (Nov 22), Jalaluddin who is also Umno supreme council member, said Barisan had chosen to remain as the Opposition without siding with Pakatan or Perikatan.

"As a party member, I will always place the party agenda as my guide, but the rakyat remain my priority.

"With the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, may a stable government be formed and bring an end to the current political instability," wrote the Jelebu MP.

Jalaluddin added that Barisan's focus right now is to serve the voters in the 30 seats it won in GE15.

"The people have performed their duty in choosing their leaders. It is now our time to perform ours," he said.

In GE15, Pakatan obtained 81 seats while Perikatan managed 73.
