Umno leaders arrive for bureau meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: Several Umno state leaders have begun arriving for the party's political bureau meeting at Menara Dato Onn at the World Trade Centre here.

Among the first to arrive was Umno Sabah chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin at about 11.45am for the meeting which is scheduled to begin at 12pm.

Also spotted arriving were Selangor Umno state liaison chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar and Terengganu Umno state chief Datuk Ahmad Said.

Also seen were Umno Melaka liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Md Rauf Yusoh and Federal Territories supreme council member Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

Besides the bureau meeting, the Umno supreme council is also scheduled to hold its meeting at the same venue at 3pm.

The meeting came in the wake of Umno's dismal performance in the 15th General Election, after winning only 27 seats.

It was the party's worst performance in the polls with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz calling on party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign.

Former Umno Perlis chief Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim had also called for Ahmad Zahid to step down.

Shahidan was dropped by the party to defend his Arau seat, which he won in the polls under the PAS banner.
