GE15: Frustrated voters exit Lembah Pantai voting centre without casting ballots

KUALA LUMPUR: Long queues, lack of signage and proper waiting lanes resulted in voters leaving some polling stations in Lembah Pantai frustrated and angry without casting their votes.

Many voters at the PPR Kerinchi field and SRA Ibnu Sina madrasah, which were turned into polling centres, complained they had to wait several hours.

"After I had waited for two hours, there was still a long queue ahead and no signs.

"Only when we got to the front of the line were we directed to our respective streams," said one voter, who declined to be named.

"There must be a better way to do this. The personnel there did not guide us or give any information," he added.

A voter who gave her name only as Malar said she saw some people at the back of the queue leaving.

"People were just abandoning the line and shouting at the personnel on duty," she said.

It was learnt that Fahmi Fadzil was on his way to Kerinchi to calm voters Saturday (Nov 19) afternoon.

Due to the long wait, some asked for chairs so they could rest but there were none.

This was the first time the Election Commission (EC) has chosen the football field to be polling stations.

It was reported earlier that the location was not conducive and that the field had already been damaged by frequent flooding.
