GE15: Four arrested, 20 investigation papers opened, say cops


KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detained four people and opened 20 investigation papers in connection with the 15th General Election (GE15) as of Wednesday (Oct 16).

Bukit Aman GE15 Operations director Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said three of the suspects were detained in Bentong, Pahang for allegedly putting up banners containing lies about a candidate.

"The banners were put up at Jalan Utama Industri and the CSR expressway in Bentong.

"We managed to track down the three men responsible and detained them. The case is classified under Section 4A(1) of the Election Act 1954 and Section 427 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 17).

Another man was detained in Kuching, Sarawak for vandalising posters and banners of a political party, he said.

"We are investigating under Section 427 of the Penal Code," he added.

Comm Hazani said 30 IPs were opened on Wednesday including four IPs each in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, three in Sarawak, and two in Sabah.

"We will investigate all cases thoroughly," he said.

A total of 2,148 permits were issued for ceramah on Wednesday, he said.

"It included 326 permits issued in Sabah, followed by Pahang (300), Sarawak (293), Perak (221) and Johor (208).

"We did not detect any ceramah held without a permit on Wednesday," he said.
