Several areas in Kulim, Bandar Baharu hit by flash floods

ALOR SETAR: Several low-lying areas in Kulim and Bandar Baharu here have been hit by flash floods on Friday (Nov 11).

A Civil Defence Force spokesman said that Kampung Sungai Seluang, Surau Taman Sang Kancil, Kampung Paya Tok Betok, Kampung Bukit Sarang Ayam in Kulim and at Kampung Batu 18 in Serdang, Bandar Baharu were among the affected areas.

He added that the floods were caused by heavy rain that began at about 6pm, and said that five relief centres (PPS) have been opened in Kulim.

These five are at Surau Taman Sang Kancil, SK Sri Limau, Dewan Penghulu Paya Tok Betok, Masjid Sungai Seluang and Surau Kampung Bukit Sarang Ayam.

A total of 78 victims from 18 families are currently at the five PPS.

Meanwhile at Bandar Baharu, a total of eight victims have been placed in a PPS at Surat Batu 18.
