No fantasy, but a practical manifesto

TANJUNG MALIM: A transformation plan that gives attention to the needs of the people of Tanjung Malim has been unveiled by Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

His manifesto titled A Prosperous Tanjung Malim covers all aspects from the economy, education and agriculture to culture and healthcare benefits for people residing in Tanjung Malim.

“I am a doctor, a cardiologist.

“I am not here to give you a fantasy world or promise anything that cannot be done.

“Let’s be practical and realistic. Everything in my manifesto is doable and related to each of you,” the Barisan Nasional candidate told devotees at a temple event in Slim River on Tuesday night.

He briefed them on his draft strategy to transform the town and improve their quality of life.

At a press conference yesterday, Dr Mah, who is MCA deputy president, said if he wins, he would carry out development to turn the area into an education hub, an agriculture research base, and a tourist destination.

He said one of his main concerns was to keep local youth from leaving Tanjung Malim to search for greener pastures outside, and would help ensure there will be enough job opportunities and activities for them.

He added that he would continue his support and ensure a smooth progress of the RM32bil Automotive Hi-Tech Valley project.

“I will set up a service centre to help job seekers and those who wish to start their own business,” he added.

The constituency has 45,526 people aged between 18 and 39 (48.5%) and 28,886 (30%) aged from 40 to 59.

Dr Mah, who is Deputy Education Minister, said he will also set up a committee to look into education-related matters.

“The committee will be tasked with counselling students, providing information on courses at local and overseas higher-learning institutions, as well as upgrading school facilities to make Tanjung Malim a high-quality education city from the preschool up to university-level,” he added.

He also noted that Tanjung Malim has a lot of land for agriculture.

“I will work with local universities and researchers as well as invite experts from overseas to assist farmers in modern farming (techniques) and eventually increasing their yields,” he said.

A medical doctor by profession, Dr Mah also promised to upgrade the facilities and services at hospitals and health clinics, as well as beefing up the frequency of mobile clinics especially to the rural areas and Felda settlements.

His other plans include organising an annual carnival to showcase different cultures from various races, including indigenous peoples.

“These are the requests I compiled from the people during my service here over the past few years, and I promise to deliver all of them if I win,” he added.
