BUKIT MERTAJAM: Nurul Izzah Anwar has shaken off her earlier pessimism about Pakatan Harapan needing two general elections to retake Putrajaya.
She said she felt heartened by the interest of young voters during her visits around the country.
“It is still clear that there is interest from younger voters to come out and make their voices heard.
“My optimism lies with the youths and in this feeling that it can be done,” she told reporters on Saturday after launching her election machinery in Permatang Pauh, where she is defending her seat.
Nurul Izzah, 42, was asked to comment on a “forecast” she made in April this year about Pakatan needing two elections to regain the confidence of voters to take back Putrajaya after losing control in March 2020.
“That (statement) was about the worst-case scenario if we are not able to galvanise the support and momentum of those who came out to vote in 2018.
“I always believe in communicating frankly and in an engaging manner with voters,” she explained.
Nurul Izzah said among the problems she saw then were the coalition’s policies and its failure to fulfil its election manifesto promises after taking over the Federal Government in May 2018.
She later apologised and explained that she was only narrating the “worst case scenario” for her party, PKR.
