Bukit Aman busts human trafficking and sexual exploitation ring

SUBANG: A human trafficking and sexual exploitation syndicate has been busted with the arrest of five foreigners in the Klang Valley.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said two Indonesian men were arrested on Oct 26 following information obtained from the Royal Thai Police.

"In the raid, we managed to rescue two Thai women and two Indonesian women.

"The four rescued women are still at a shelter under an interim protection order," he told a press conference at the police Air Operations Centre here on Monday (Nov 7).

Further investigation led police to arrest three Thai women in the Klang Valley on Oct 29, he said.

"The three women aged between 30 and 39 were the syndicate's agents, tasked at recruiting local women for sexual exploitation," he said.

The IGP said Bukit Aman had successfully helped the Royal Thai Police cripple a human trafficking syndicate active in Malaysia and Thailand with the arrests of the five suspects.

"We always maintain close cooperation with our counterparts in the region to curb crime holistically.

"Today we are handing over the three Thai suspects over to the Royal Thai Police so that legal action can be taken against them in Thailand.

"(The suspects are being deported) under the Immigration Act," he said.

Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner-general Surachate Hakparn, who was also present, said close cooperation between Malaysian and Thai police led to the successful arrests.

"We will continue to work closely together to curb transborder crimes," he said.
