PETALING JAYA: Sources say no seats in the Klang Valley have been allocated for the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) so far, while its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is tipped to defend his Muar seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
“Yes, he will stand in Muar,” said sources.
The Muda co-founder is set to make an announcement on Wednesday (Nov 2) on whether he will be defending the seat he has held since 2018.
“No urban seats (in the Klang Valley) allocated to Muda, so far it is all rural,” the source said when asked if Muda would be contesting in the Klang Valley.
The seats keep changing by the day with negotiation after negotiation with Pakatan Harapan, the source added.
The source said this was why Muda has been making candidate announcements in stages as the seats were finalised.
Muda has already announced its candidates for four seats - Shahrizal Denci in Kota Marudu, Lim Wei Jiet for Tanjung Piai, Siti Rahayu Baharin in Tanjong Karang and Danial Abdul Majeed in Kepala Batas.
Meanwhile, Perak Muda chief Mutalib Uthman, who previously announced that he was contesting in Tapah in a now-deleted Facebook post, will be heading to Masjid Tanah.
Muda later clarified that it would not be fielding any candidates in the Tapah parliamentary seat.
Mutalib also apologised for the premature announcement, adding that he would be contesting in a rural seat.
The Tapah seat will be contested by PKR in GE15.
On Oct 28, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered Syed Saddiq to enter his defence on four corruption charges after finding the prosecution had successfully proven a prima facie case against him.
The court has fixed the defence trial to begin from Feb 22 to Feb 24, March 13, March 14 and April 10 to April 14, 2023.
