Ministers, NGO heads convey Deepavali greetings

KUALA LUMPUR: Cabinet and non-governmental organisations (NGO) have conveyed their Deepavali greetings to all Hindu devotees celebrating the festival today.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa expressed hope that this year’s celebration would bring joy and happiness to all.

"Happy Deepavali to all Hindu devotees and Keluarga Malaysia,” he said in a Twitter post on Sunday (Oct 23).

Senior International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali also tweeted that Deepavali celebrated the harmony of communities and would instil a sense of goodwill and understanding among cultures.

"Based on such noble values, let us strengthen the stability and prosperity of our communities based on the principles of peace, justice, happiness and prosperity,” he said

He added that the festival reminded him of how important socio-economic development and wealth creation was for fairer distribution and the shared prosperity of all.

Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof meanwhile hoped that Deepavali would bring harmony to all and strengthen the familial bonds of Keluarga Malaysia.

The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) in a statement today described Deepavali as a festival meant to bring people together, and create peace and harmony, which are the primary elements of Malaysia's stability.

"We urge the country to once again stand tall as Malaysians. It is vital that we defy differences to sustain our societal well-being. More importantly, remind ourselves that we are Malaysians and it is our collective responsibility to, above all, uphold unity and build an inclusive a progressive Malaysia for everyone," it said. - Bernama
