Perak assembly dissolved to align state polls with GE15

TAPAH: The Perak Legislative Assembly has been dissolved to make way for state polls, which will be held concurrently with the 15th General Election (GE15).

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said he had received a letter from Perak's Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on Monday (Oct 17), who consented to dissolve the state assembly immediately.

"I had sought an audience with Sultan Nazrin to request to dissolve the state assembly last Wednesday (Oct 12).

"With great pleasure, I would like to announce that I have received the letter that the Perak Ruler has consented to the request," he said in a press conference at the Batang Padang district office here.

This follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's announcement that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had consented to the dissolution of Parliament, paving the way for GE15.

On Friday (Oct 14), Saarani was summoned for an audience with the Perak Ruler but did not reveal the purpose of the meeting.
