Teacher from Melaka pleads not guilty to sexual assault in Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: A secondary teacher from Melaka claimed trial to a charge of sexually assaulting his student at the Magistrate's Court, here on Friday (May 10).

The 30-year-old teacher, who appeared before judge Elsie Primus, was charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to the facts of the case, the man had allegedly committed the offence in Penampang around noon on Feb 21.

The court fixed Nov 27 to 29 for trial.

He was also granted bail of RM20,000, with RM10,000 deposited by three local sureties, one of whom must be a Sabahan.

The man, who was represented by counsel Siti Mahsuri Dicky and Reagan Moo Fei Liq, was also ordered to report to a police station in Melaka twice a month and surrender his passport to the court, pending resolution of the case.
