Job seekers flock to career carnival in Melaka

MELAKA: In a bid to fulfil her dream of becoming a flight attendant, 20-year-old Ikil Nurraudah Muhammad Redzaa (pic) travelled from Masai, Johor, to try her luck at an interview at the three-day Jamin Kerja Keluarga Malaysia Career Carnival which began on Oct 14 at the Melaka International Trade Centre here.

Ikil Nurraudah, who has a certificate in airline cabin crew management, customer service and ground handling from an aviation academy in Negri Sembilan, said she arrived at the career carnival at 9am yesterday, fully dressed as a flight attendant.

Accompanied by her sister, Ikil Qurratu Ain, 23, the two women arrived to attend the programme held in conjunction with the Melaka edition of the Keluarga Malaysia Aspirations Tour.

“This is the first time I have attended an interview session, and I really want to venture into this field and put my knowledge into practice. Besides, I love travelling.

“I feel excited and enthusiastic. I hope there will be good news for me,” the second of six siblings told Bernama.

Wong Li Teng, 22, from Sungai Udang here, has cerebral palsy. He had attended interviews with four companies so far to find a job that would work with his disability.

Although he now has to wait for about two weeks for the results, Wong said he was satisfied with the job opportunities offered at the carnival.

“There were many vacancies here, and I see that people with disabilities are not marginalised either.

“I hope there will be an opportunity for me to join the workforce because I have just finished a multimedia course at a private academy,” said the eldest of three siblings.

Mohd Haslim Ramli, 35, from Ayer Keroh, came to the carnival to look for a job after being unemployed since May, when the courier company he previously worked for in Klang, Selangor, shut down.

He said he wanted to try his luck with another courier company in Melaka and hoped to get a job offer soon.

Meanwhile, Melaka Social Secu-rity Organisation (Socso) director Abd Razak Omar said 1,500 job seekers had attended the first day of the career carnival yesterday. Of that total, 275 people had successfully received job offers.

“About 800 other job seekers will be called soon for a second interview session with the companies involved. Overall, the attendance rate is very encouraging,” he said.
