JOHOR BARU: In a space of three months, another tipper lorry has caused a four-vehicle pile up on the Johor side of the Causeway, with one of the drivers involved in the accident being sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police had opened up investigation papers about a road accident involving four vehicles along the Causeway, which went viral on social media.
"The incident happened at around 9.07am when a tipper lorry driven by a Malaysian in his 30s, bringing in sand from the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) was heading towards Singapore.
"The driver failed to control his vehicle and it hit a sedan car causing the vehicle to enter the middle lane where it hit a trailer. The tipper lorry then continued to move forward and hit a brown compact car," he said here on Thursday (Oct 13).
ACP Raub said the driver was stuck inside the vehicle due to the impact and firemen successfully pulled him out from the wrecked car.
He added the injured driver was then taken to the hospital to seek immediate medical treatment.
"The injured driver is currently being treated at the HSA yellow zone while the other drivers did not sustain any injuries," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
ACP Raub also said all of the four vehicles involved in the accident were registered in Malaysia and all of the drivers are Malaysians.
He added that those that witnessed the accident to lodge a report at the nearest police station or come forward to the Johor Baru South police traffic headquarters.
In July, a tipper lorry slammed into 11 other vehicles after its driver lost control of it on the Johor side of the Causeway, but nobody was injured in the accident.
The driver and his employer have since been charged at the magistrate court on July 18 where both parties claimed trial.
