Don’t pin blame on Perikatan for Parliament’s dissolution, says Saifuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional should not be blamed for the dissolution of Parliament, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.

The Pahang Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chief was responding to caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s statement that the 12 Perikatan ministers had acted unwisely by writing a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Saifuddin said the letter was only intended to voice the concerns of the people so that the 15th General Election would not be held during the monsoon season.

"During this time, the people want the government to focus fully on economic recovery measures, control the increase in the price of goods and providing job opportunities.

"Perikatan Nasional will continue to prioritise the interests of the people, especially in this challenging period.

"This is one of the reasons Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin launched the Prihatin Nasional Squad specifically to deal with flood disasters during the Pahang Perikatan Nasional election machinery event recently," he said in a post on social media on Wednesday (Oct 12).

Saifuddin then urged Ismail Sabri not to divert the people's attention from the issues they are facing.

Ismail Sabri had in statement on Oct 11 said that the letter by Perikatan Cabinet ministers to the King had undermined the Prime Minister and the dissolution of Parliament was necessary to prevent disharmony in the government's administration

"Therefore, this dissolution is to prevent disharmony from being triggered in the government administration.

"The action of these ministers had clearly undermined the office of the prime minister, where the appointment was consented by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Their actions had also undermined the spirit of solidarity in the government administration," he said.
