Body of 50-year-old man found after firemen force open door to Sandakan flat

KOTA KINABALU: The body of a 50-year-old man was found in his home after firemen attended to an emergency call to open a locked door in Sandakan on Wednesday (Oct 12).

The Fire and Rescue Department said they had earlier received a report at 2.21pm requesting assistance to open the locked entrance to a flat in Taman Sejati in Sandakan.

“There was a grill on the front door which the team managed to cut open using a power saw.

“A resident was confirmed dead inside the house by the medical officer present, and the remains were handed over to the police for further action,” said the department spokesman, adding that the operation ended at 2.48pm.

Meanwhile, in another case in Ranau earlier in the morning, the department’s mountain search and rescue (Mosar) team carried a 35-year-old woman, who had sprained her right foot, down Mount Kinabalu.

They earlier received an emergency call at 8.30am alerting them to the injured climber at KM4 (Layang-Layang) on the mountain route.

“The team tended her with early treatment before carrying the victim using a 'Neil Robertson Stretcher' towards Timpohon Gate (entrance to the mountain).

“She was then sent over to the Ranau district hospital and the operation ended at 5.25pm,” said the department spokesman.
