No dominant party in Pakatan, Kit Siang hits back at Saravanan

PETALING JAYA: There is no dominant party within Pakatan Harapan, says DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

"For Saravanan’s (Datuk Seri M. Saravanan) information, there is no dominant party in Pakatan Harapan which is very different from the Barisan Nasional, which is not only Umno-dominant but practises Umno political hegemony in Barisan Nasional – which would have caused Tun Sambanthan to turn in his grave," Lim said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 27). Tun V.T. Sambanthan was MIC's fifth president and led the party when Malaysia achieved independence.

Lim was responding to the MIC deputy president and Human Resources Minister’s remarks on Sunday (Sept 25) that DAP would determine how the country is run even if Pakatan won the 15th General Election (GE15) and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became prime minister.

The Iskandar Puteri MP also questioned what MIC leaders, especially Saravanan, had done to make MIC – which was one of the oldest existing political parties around - a Malaysian party.

"Can Saravanan tell what he has done as deputy president of MIC to make MIC a Malaysian party instead of a party of the Indians in Malaysia?" Lim asked.

"One of the problems faced by the new Umno leadership was how to demonise the new DAP leadership as anti-Malay and anti-Islam. Why is Saravanan trying to help the Umno leadership to demonise the DAP?"

Saravanan said that Anwar could not be prime minister without DAP’s support.

"In the end, DAP will (be in) control even if he (Anwar) becomes the prime minister," he said.

"If Barisan wins, the prime minister will decide on everything," he added.

Saravanan said people needed to realise that DAP would have the most seats if Pakatan won the election, and the Federal Government could not be formed without the party.

DAP currently had 42 seats in the Dewan Rakyat.

"Between DAP, PKR, Amanah and Muda, who do you think will have more seats?

"DAP will have the most seats and it will decide how the country is run," he told a press conference after launching the Tapah Barisan Nasional 15th General Election machinery at Arena Merdeka here on Sunday (Sept 25).
