Former assistant district officer charged with graft

SHAH ALAM: A former Kuala Langat Land and District Office assistant district officer has been charged at the Sessions Court here for graft.

Mohd Asraf Redzuan, 39, is accused of soliciting and accepting money related to a road resurfacing project in the Kuala Langat district last year and in 2020.

He is accused of committing the offence at the management office of a mosque located at Section 14, Shah Alam between Nov 11, 2020 and Feb 24 last year.

Mohd Asraf had allegedly sought RM5,000 and received RM2,000 as commission for himself in his capacity as a public official.

The purpose of the bribe was allegedly for him to help a company obtain a contract worth RM95,362.80 for road resurfacing works in Kampung Batu 10, Kebun Baru in Kuala Langat.

He was charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Mohd Ashraf claimed trial to the charges in court on Wednesday (Sept 14).

Judge Rozilah Salleh set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and ordered Mohd Asraf to surrender his passport to the court.

DPP Mohd Aliff Shaharuzaman prosecuted while the accused was represented by Nik Muammer Hurrie Muhamad Sukri.
