Warisan eyes all 26 parliamentary seats in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan is looking at contesting in all 26 parliamentary seats in Sabah, including Labuan, says its president Datuk Seri Shafie Adpal.

He said at the national stage, Warisan would focus first on fixing and strengthening the party while in Sabah, it could work with Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), if PBS was willing to.

“If PBS is willing to work with Warisan, the seating arrangements will be discussed and negotiated accordingly. PBS has its strengths and Warisan acknowledges that.

“It is vital to have a stronger voice in the government to achieve what Sabah wants, including its rights under the Federal Constitution.

“Ultimately, it will be the people who will determine the fate and direction of the nation,” he said after opening Warisan’s annual general meeting here yesterday.

Shafie said Warisan’s choice of candidates for the general election would be those who could win seats they contested in.

He added that the candidates did not need to be those with positions within the party.

“What we want is someone who can win the hearts of the people,” he said.

Shafie said the most important thing for Warisan now was to strengthen the party and their cooperation with the rakyat as opposed to focusing on “big tents” alone.
