KUALA LUMPUR: A mechanic has been arrested for threatening his 17-year-old girlfriend with knives because she wanted to end their relationship.
The 19-year-old man also demanded that the girl pay him RM700, which was the sum he claimed to have spent on her during the course of their courtship.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the girl had gone to the man’s house in Taman Ukay Bistari at noon on Monday.
“There, he had demanded RM700 from her. He got violent and shoved the girl before brandishing two knives.
“He also threatened to kill her for wanting to break up with him,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The man also grabbed his girlfriend’s handphone and smashed it on the floor, ACP Mohamad Farouk added.
“We arrested the man at around 8.30pm on Tuesday and seized a baton, two knives and a mobile phone,” he said, adding that the man would be remanded to assist in further investigations.
The case has been classified as criminal intimidation.
In a separate case, a labourer was arrested for extorting money from a shopkeeper.
ACP Mohamad Farouk said during the 6pm incident on Sunday, a 64-year-old man was in his shop at the Pandan Perdana Food Court in Jalan Perdana 9/10 here when he was approached by the suspect.
“The suspect threatened to damage the shop if the man did not pay him RM100 in protection money.
“He also kicked some of the items at the shop and threatened to beat up the victim,” he said.
Investigations showed that the suspect began demanding protection money on Aug 13.
“Based on the information received, police arrested a 41-year-old man working as a labourer in Pandan Perdana at around 12am on Aug 23 and seized a handphone.
“Checks revealed that the man has a criminal record for drug and other offences,” he said, adding that the suspect had been remanded for four days.
“The case has been classified as extortion.”
