KAJANG: A day after Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was sentenced to jail for the misappropriation of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, the scene at Kajang Prison here was calm and quiet.

Members of the media stood by the road outside the prison’s main entrance, waiting to hear if the former prime minister would be moved to the Sungai Buloh Prison.

Earlier, a Malay daily quoted a source as saying that Najib was at Kajang Prison temporarily before being transferred to Sungai Buloh.

The source told the paper that Najib was in Kajang Prison for now because of administrative procedures.

“Najib was placed in Kajang Prison temporarily for a health screening test and other procedures,” the source said.

Meanwhile, a convoy of four motorcyclists from Port Dickson stopped by to see whether Najib was indeed in prison.

One of them, who wanted to be known only as Ganesh, 50, said he asked the prison guards about Najib.

“I asked the guards if Najib was really here. They said ‘yes’ so that was it. We came just to see the prison that held Najib,” he said.

Ganesh added that he and his friends were happy that Najib had started his sentence.

“We’re happy ... but we don’t want to explain why we are happy,” he told the media before leaving the area.

On Tuesday, Najib was sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210mil after the Federal Court upheld Najib’s conviction for misappropriating SRC International’s funds amounting to RM42mil.
