Factory worker dies after being trapped in conveyor belt


SEGAMAT: A factory worker was killed after he became trapped in a conveyor belt at his workplace in Bandar Seberang on Monday (Aug 22).

Bandar Baru fire station chief Mazuki Ismail said they received an emergency call on the incident at Jalan Genuang near here at 3.18pm.

He said 12 firemen in a light fire rapid tender vehicle and an emergency medical response services vehicle were sent to the scene.

“Firemen had to use special equipment to cut the conveyor belt to extricate the 57-year-old man.

“The man was however pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedic team and the body had been handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.

In a separate incident in Pontian, a fire broke out at a factory at Taman Perindustrian Pontian destroying a container which was used to store goods.

Pontian Baru fire station chief Mahadir Mamat said they received an emergency call at 3.19pm and deployed 15 firemen.

He said the operation ended at 3.50pm, adding that the cause of the fire and the extent of the losses were still being determined.
