Two teenage sisters die in Sitiawan house fire

IPOH: Two teenage sisters, aged 15 and 18, were killed in a fire that destroyed nearly 90% of two adjoining double-storey houses in Kampung Koh in Sitiawan.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidon said an emergency call was received at 9.01am on Friday (Oct 16) and firefighters arrived at the scene nine minutes later.

She said the blaze involved two adjoining Class C houses measuring 40ft by 70ft each, with two victims reportedly trapped inside.

The fire she said also damaged four vehicles, three cars and a motorcycle.

"The operation was brought under control at 10.30am, while overhaul work is still ongoing.

"A total of 20 personnel from the Sitiawan and Seri Manjung Fire and Rescue stations, along with six members of the Pantai Remis Volunteer Fire Brigade, were deployed to the scene.

"The department's K9 Special Team was also contacted to assist in the investigation," she said.

She said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
