Form RCI into LCS scandal, urges Umno Youth

PUTRAJAYA: A Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) must be formed immediately to investigate the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) scandal, says Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (pic).

He said an independent and comprehensive probe must be done in the interest of the public.

“Accusations, provocations and assumptions made over this matter have become unhealthy.

“It has created a negative perception and raised questions on the country’s military-sensitive assets, our defence preparedness and the safety and sovereignty of the nation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Asyraf said the Umno leadership in the current and previous government had also demanded that investigation and action be taken following the audit report released by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“Umno Youth urges the government to look into the setting of an RCI to investigate the matter for the interest of the people,” he said.

The PAC report presented to Parliament on Aug 4 said some RM1.4bil in government allocation for the LCS project that was signed in 2014 was used for other purposes, including cost overruns.

On July 19, The Star reported that anti-graft investigators were convinced that they had enough evidence to bring about charges against several individuals.
