TRADITIONAL handmade wooden shutters still hold a special place among the people of Kampung Ladang Sekolah, Terengganu, despite modern alternatives being readily available everywhere, as reported by Harian Metro.

Local wood shutter maker Mohd Syamsuddin Embong, better known locally as Pok Din, said he is aware of the fact that he may be the only one left who is still making traditional wood shutters in the entire state.

He stated that he was still producing the wood shutters with the same Gerutu wood and braided ropes that he used when he inherited the company from his brother more than 50 years ago.

“Despite its simplicity, making these wood shutters requires great skill and knowledge because the rope must be carefully woven into each section of wood using a weight to ensure each section of wood is properly fixed in place,” he said.

According to him, he had received orders from all over the state, with some even coming from outside Terengganu, including an order from the Netherlands, which made him feel proud of his craft.

“The advantage of these handmade wood shutters is their durability, as they can last up to 10 years depending on how they are used,” he said, adding that he was keen to pass on the business to his nephew as he was worried that the craft would be lost over time.

> Fans of the drama Melur untuk Firdaus who were hoping the drama would become a real-life romance between two main cast members, Meerqeen and Anna Jobling, have been left disappointed, reported Kosmo!

Many fans of the show loved the chemistry between Meerqeen’s and Anna’s characters so much that they were hoping they would fall in love off the set.

However, the fans’ hopes were dashed after pictures and screenshots showing Meerqeen’s, whose real name is Mohd Shameer Shauqeen Saiful Izam, seemingly intimate relationship with another woman went viral.

Despite this, the fans showed their willingness to accept Meerqeen’s relationship and encouraged others to do the same.

The drama stars Meerqeen as Firdaus, a man who is forced by his parents to marry Melur, played by Anna, despite a relationship with Dee, played by Nesa Idrus.
