Ipoh plane crash: Flight instructor who survived now in stable condition, say cops


IPOH: Flight instructor Muhammad Din Fikri Zainal, who was on board a light plane that crashed on Jalan Dr Nazrim Shah, here is reported to be in a stable condition.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said Muhammad Din, 62, is still receiving treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

“Based on our initial investigations, one of the plane’s wings broke.

“The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will continue to conduct investigations today,” he told reporters after witnessing the hand over rescue-boats by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad to Perak Police at the police officer’s mess hall here Tuesday (Aug 2).

Saarani added that CAAM will conduct the full investigation.

On Monday (Aug 1), 52-year-old flight instructor and retired fighter pilot, Mejar (Rt) Fajim Juffa Mustafa Kamal from Semenyih, Selangor, was killed and fellow flight instructor Muhammad Din Fikri, from Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, was injured when the light aircraft they were on crashed at around 8pm.

Both flight instructors were reported to have departed from a nearby flight training school before the incident occurred.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the body of Fajim Juffa was removed from the wrecked airplane at about 9.20pm Monday while Muhammad Din was rushed to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for treatment.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said thorough investigations would be underway in order to prevent another similar incident from occurring in the future.

“CAAM and AAIB (Air Accident Investigation Bureau) will be investigating this incident in-depth in accordance with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016,” he said.
