GEORGE TOWN: Muhamad Eizreel Muhamad Roszaidi had been ready to welcome his third child – and his first son – next week.

He had bought all the essentials for the newborn and, with his salary in his pocket, had promised to bring his wife out to shop for more before she left for Kuala Kangsar, Perak, to give birth.

It never happened.

The 25-year-old died in a high-speed motorcycle crash on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway on Sunday, which also saw three others killed.

Muhamad Eizreel had even messaged Norhanazielah Hanazi, 28, to ask about her wellbeing and that of their two daughters at about 2am on Sunday.

The next call she received was from his friend, telling her about the accident.

“I was counting down the days to deliver my third child on July 27,” said Norhanazielah.

“Three days ago, I even asked if he had chosen a name for the baby boy. He said he would only decide later.

“He really wanted to see his son,” said Norhanazielah, who has two daughters aged four and eight.

She rushed to the scene after being informed of the accident.

“Both my children started crying when they were told their father had died,” she said.

Muhamad Eizreel, Muhammad Shazwan Hakim Mohd Abdul Sani, 22, and Ahmad Haikal Naif Ahmad Nazrul, 19, were killed on the spot in the multi-vehicle pile-up during an illegal race.

A fourth rider, Muhammad Harith Zikri Yusnizar, 17, died in hospital later.

Three others – Mohd Haziq Harris, 34; Muhammad Rahimi Shukor, 19; and Muhammad Shazwan Hafiz Mohd Abdul Sani, 22 – were injured and are now at the Penang Hospital.

They are believed to be among hundreds of motorcyclists who regularly gathered for joyrides and street races on the island-bound side of the expressway at about 4am on Sunday.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said one of the three in the hospital was still critical while the others were in stable condition.

ACP Soffian had said that several motorcyclists were suspected to have been involved in illegal racing.

It is believed that some of them lost control and crashed into each other.

Two cars were also rammed from behind by motorcyclists taking part in the race.

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving resulting in death.

Gruesome videos showing lifeless bodies on the mangled wrecks of at least five motorcycles emerged on social media right after the incident.

Some videos show people scrambling to lift motorcycles off the victims as they lay lifeless.

One video shows a motorcyclist crashing into a car from the rear and breaking into pieces upon impact.
