Crackhouse Comedy Club co-founder released

KUALA LUMPUR: The Crackhouse Comedy Club co-founder has been released by the police here on Friday (July 15).

This was confirmed by his lawyer Ramkarpal Singh.

The 39-year-old left the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 5.30pm without speaking to the media.

He was arrested on Thursday (July 14) as part of a probe into three videos that allegedly touched on racial and religious sensitivities.

This follows the arrest of Siti Nuramira Abdullah, 26, and her boyfriend V. Alexander Navin, 38.

The couple had been charged in court after Siti Nuramira performed at the comedy club’s open mic night and a video was uploaded on social media.

She was charged under Section 298A(1)(a) of the Penal Code for causing disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will, or prejudicing the maintenance of harmony or unity, on the grounds of religion.

Navin was slapped with two charges of making and sharing an offensive post on his Instagram account on June 5 and on his YouTube account on June 16.

Both pleaded not guilty.
