Covid-19 Watch: 3,264 new cases, two deaths reported


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,264 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (July 10), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,595,974 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 3,259 of Sunday's new cases were local transmissions while there were five imported infections.

According to the portal, the number of active Covid-19 infections in the country now stands at 35,882 with 96.6%, or 34,659 individuals, observing home quarantine and 24 patients, or 0.1%, being treated at quarantine and treatment centres throughout the country.

A total of 1,156 Covid-19 patients, or 3.2% of active cases, are being treated in hospitals throughout the country with 43 individuals warded in intensive care units (ICU).

Of Sunday's ICU admissions, 17 are unventilated, while 26 require ventilator support.

The CovidNow portal also reported that Malaysia's ICU utilisation rate stood at 61.9% overall on Sunday, with Covid-19 patients accounting for 10.4% of the ICU utilisation rate.

A total of 2,703 individuals recovered from Covid-19 on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,524,281 since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were two deaths due to Covid-19 on Sunday, with one each in Sarawak and Selangor.

This brings the total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in Malaysia to 35,811 since the pandemic began.
