Govt to study proposal for Johor’s long-term traffic dispersal system, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The Federal Government will study the Johor state government’s proposal for a long-term traffic dispersal system, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“The Transport Ministry will look into every aspect including dispersing traffic to the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL), Inner Ring Road, and Jalan Ungku Aziz to integrate with the RTS Link Bukit Chagar station.

“This is vital to reduce congestion along Jalan Tebrau.

“The RTS Link is meant to be a people-mover between Johor and Singapore to serve about 10,000 passengers per hour per direction once it is fully completed fully on Dec 31, 2026,” he said in a Facebook post after visiting the Wadi Hana work site of the Johor Baru - Singapore RTS Link on Saturday (June 11).

The Transport Minister also announced the restart of the Shuttle Tebrau service operated by KTMB.

“This service was suspended from March 24, 2020, due to Covid-19 and the resulting closure of borders.

“I’m pleased to announce that in the transition phase to endemic and following the reopening of our borders, the Shuttle Tebrau service is finally going to resume.

“Ticket sales will start on June 13 for travel from June 19 to July 18, 2022.

“There are 31 services daily on the JB Sentral - Woodlands - JB Sentral route at 30 minutes intervals.

“From these 31 services, 18 are from JB Sentral to Woodlands and 13 from Woodlands to JB Sentral.

“They can carry a maximum of 320 passengers per trip,” he said, adding that restarting these services mean that some 7,000 people will be served daily on this popular route back and forth from Singapore.
