Extra day for special sitting to table anti-party hopping law, says Wan Junaidi

KUALA LUMPUR: The special Dewan Rakyat sitting to table the amendment to the Federal Constitution (Amendments) 2022 Bill on anti-party hopping next Monday (April 11) has been extended for another day, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) said several agreements had been reached by both sides under the Steering Committee for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Transformation and Political Stability.

These include giving full support to amendments to the Federal Constitution involving the enabling clause under Article 10, to allow the powers to enact new anti-party hopping law.

"The initial draft of the Bill will be distributed to members of the committee for further deliberation before the special sitting on Monday (April 11).

Wan Junaidi said that the Dewan Rakyat will sit on April 11 and 12, to table and debate the constitutional amendments.

The decision was reached after a two-hour meeting with the bipartisan committee.

Aside from that, Wan Junaidi said that both sides agreed to have another special sitting to table, debate and pass the related Bill in the shortest time possible, which will be announced by the Prime Minister.
