Covid-19: No need for travel insurance when travelling to Singapore, says Khairy

PUTRAJAYA: Travel insurance is exempted for Malaysia and Singapore citizens travelling between both countries, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The exemption, he said, is a reciprocal arrangement between the two countries.

"The insurance is meant to cover costs of quarantine, treatment and hospital admission if the traveller is to be infected with Covid-19 while in Malaysia.

"However, taking into consideration the Singapore government's latest stance, and on the basis of reciprocity, the requirement for travel insurance is exempted for those who are citizens, permanent residents and long-term pass holders of Malaysia and Singapore," Khairy said in a statement on Wednesday (March 30).

It is compulsory for travellers arriving in Malaysia to purchase Covid-19 travel insurance with a minimum coverage of US$20,000 (RM84,000).
