Padi field now a dumping ground


Illegal site: Huge bags of waste were found at the former padi field in Permatang Pauh.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Yet another padi field has “gone down the drain”, further eroding the country’s ability to produce rice to feed its population.

This time, investigators from the Department of Environment (DOE) discovered that the owner had allowed manufacturers and contractors to illegally dump construction debris and suspected industrial waste onto the field in Permatang Pauh here.
