Cops urge road users not to hesitate in alerting authorities when faced with vehicle difficulties

JOHOR BARU: Police urge road users who experience vehicle difficulties to immediately alert the police or PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) so that they can provide prompt assistance.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the police are working together with PLUS and other government agencies to be on alert during the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday.

"Always ensure that your vehicle is in good condition and if there is any trouble on the road, do not hesitate to alert the authorities or PLUS, as we are ready to provide help, together with the Fire and Rescue Department, Health Department, and Civil Defence Force.

"Those who are forced to stop on the emergency lane should also stand behind the highway guard rail to avoid any unwanted accidents, as there have been a number of incidents that have occurred in the past," he said.

He said this after launching "Ops Selamat 17" in conjunction with CNY at the Kempas toll plaza here on Sunday (Jan 30).

He added that the police have also identified 45 hotspot locations across the state and will conduct daily operations at each one to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

"The operation will be conducted under ‘Ops Lancar’ where the focus is to ensure road users are abiding by the traffic laws.

"We are prepared to take stern action against those who drive in the emergency lane, cut queues on double-lines, use phones while driving, speed and run the red lights," he said.
