New youth wing will help PBB prepare for Undi18, says party leader

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu's (PBB) move to set up a new wing for youths aged 18 to 28 bodes well for its preparations to face Undi18, says its deputy youth chief Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

He said the new wing would look into the aspirations of youths and also encourage their participation in politics.

"All this while, the party has been engaging with youths aged 18 and above in various sectors such as education and welfare.

"Now we are emphasising their involvement in politics," he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 10).

Undi18, the lowering of the voting age from 21 to 18, is set to be implemented this month.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced on Sunday (Jan 9) that PBB would set up a special wing to cater for the 18-28 age group.

He also said the PBB constitution would be amended at its triennial general meeting in June to pave the way for the wing's formation.

Fazzrudin said the move would promote youth empowerment in PBB in line with the dynamic political situation in the country.

"I hope with the establishment of this wing, we can promote more youth-centric dialogues and policies to better serve the youths in the state.

"Youths have to understand the policies of the state government and what we have in store for them," he said.

Fazzrudin added that the state government's plans for infrastructure development, technological adoption and digital economy were made with youths in mind.

"This is to prepare the state for the future, in which youths will play a huge part, be it as leaders in the government or workforce and citizens in general," he said.
