Floods: KL Girl Guides offer Bucket of Love for disaster victims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Girl Guides Association of Malaysia, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Branch (Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides) has come together to answer the desperate call for aid for city dwellers affected by the floods and fire outbreaks last weekend in the Kuala Lumpur wider area.

The Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides has stepped up by immediately mobilising a lorry to distribute necessities and essentials to over 400 households affected by the recent flood.

The group is mobilising aid and necessities door-to-door but more is needed for the victims to resume their daily normality in their lives.

Some 385 households in Kampung Pasir Baru, Jalan Kelang Lama and 29 houses in Kampung Baru are the most devastated neighbourhoods affected by the recent flood.

Through the first wave of assistance from the Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides has rolled out to the residents of Kampung Pasir Baru and Kampung Baru, so much more aid is still needed.

Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng, the president of Girl Guides Association Malaysia, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Branch, rolled up her sleeves with the entire chapter of the association to go down to the ground and help where it matters most at the flood relief centre at SJKT Saraswathy.

She said: "This is the moment where we are tested the most as Malaysians and where we truly need to come together as one rakyat to help the most needy among us.

”On the same night, eight households in Cheras also watched helplessly as the eight flat apartment went up in flames due to a leaking gas cylinder.

“I urge all Malaysians to do be generous and do our part to bring back normalcy and dignity to the lives of those affected the most right now.

“Let us come together for them. Do reach out to us and donate if you can to the Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides Bucket of Love."

Today, the Kuala Lumpur Girl Guides handed over necessities and essentials to the residential head of Kampung Pasir Baru at Madrasah Al-Syukriah.

The Girl Guides of Kuala Lumpur will now be further extending aid to the Cheras fire victims as soon as they manage to collect more donations from the public.
