Floods: Cleaning supplies, hygiene items running low at Taman Sri Muda area, says volunteer

SHAH ALAM: Supplies are running low and volunteers working at the Taman Sri Muda flood areas are seeking assistance to help with clean-up and aid efforts.

Eunice Wan Pui Yin, a volunteer on the ground, said that among the items needed urgently were cleaning supplies.

“Mops, buckets and disinfectants would help greatly. Hygiene items like soap, toothbrushes and sanitary pads are also lacking here," she said.

“To be frank, almost everything is in short supply. Anything coming in would help greatly at this point,” added Wan.

Ready-to-eat food was also among the items needed urgently.

“Freshly-cooked food would be great as well. But on the top of our priority list are cleaning supplies,” she said.

Her group of volunteers led by lecturer Edward Devadason have been on the ground providing whatever aid to victims as soon as the floods started.

“Previously when the flood was still ongoing, the team brought items into Sri Muda, Seksyen 23, 33 and Kampung Muda Hicom. On Monday, the team brought a boat into Taman Sri Muda to evacuate people while also distributing aid there," she said.

“Currently, we are focusing on providing supplies and also helping with anything that's needed on the ground such as clean-up,” added Wan.

Wan added that working on ground zero has been a learning experience.

“We are learning everyday. A lot of us are still students but we are sincere in helping out. Those on the ground please do not waste resources because being organised is also part of the process,” she said.

Her team has constructed a relief booth within the Taman Sri Muda area.

“We brought in around two tonnes worth of aid such as soap, brushes, mops- and that ran out in about 30 minutes. We are really running low right now and any help would be greatly appreciated,” she said.

Those interested to help can contact Wan at 018-322 8911 or Edward at 012 615 1507.
