KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno leaders must keep their momentum in reaching out to the people in preparation for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said the party nationwide was heading in the right direction and should continue to step up its efforts to strengthen its position in the state and the country.
Bung, who is Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, said the party machinery needed to be streamlined and strengthened before Parliament is dissolved.
“Our momentum at the moment is quite good at various by-elections and in the latest Melaka state elections, we were very successful.
“But these successes must continue and we cannot rest on our laurels... and reach out to members at the grassroots level,” he said in a message to nationwide Umno division delegates who are meeting next Saturday (Dec 18).
Bung said the spirit of Umno members who continue their efforts after their excellent performance during by-elections or state elections was clear proof that Umno and Barisan Nasional were still relevant and the people’s choice.
“The Umnoand Barisan machinery must be at the forefront despite facing various challenges,” said the Umno supreme council member.
He said Umno leaders at all levels must continue to reach out to members and the people and look into every problem faced by the people - whether they can help the people directly or bring it up with the relevant parties.
He also asked party leaders to compile a proper membership register and set up as many new branches as well as open doors to those who wanted to return to Umno.
